What service did you have in salon?

I had a cut and blow-dry – and it was lovely. It was my second time to the salon in one week!

Scott- who was so fab and did a fantastic cut - I LOVE my hair.

What did you think of the salon?

The salon is gorgeous, really stylish and sophisticated as well as having a very chilled atmosphere. All the staff were super friendly and helpful making the experience a really lovely one.

What products did they use on you today in the salon?

I had Redken Blondage purple shampoo to cleanse and Redken Blondage Purple Conditioner, then Redken Pillow Proof was used as a prep for the blow-dry.

What do you like about New Redken Blondage? How does it work on your hair?

The Redken Blondage range is so great, it just gives my hair that extra injection of blonde when it gets a bit dull and brassy. So great to know I have it on hand for when I feel as though my hair looks a little tired.

What is the bronde hair colour trend all about?

There’s no better confidence boost than a hair colour refresh, and the bronde hair trend today is all about gorgeous brunette hues ranging from coffee latté to chocolate and everything in between. So what is bronde hair colour? It has been described as a rich fusion between blonde and brunette, where the colours come together and create a beautiful blended palette. Bronde looks flattering on anyone and can be considered by all age groups, it looks incredibly natural and is a great way to spruce up your usual brunette colour this summer. The mixture of light and dark tones adds texture and movement to a potentially flat brunette, whilst adding incredible shine and condition. Bronde is already proving popular with IT-LIST celebs from Suki Waterhouse and Jennifer Lopez to Michelle Obama and Kate Middleton. Let’s find out more about it…

Why bronde hair colour is the best low maintenance colour

This season, lived-in bronde hair inspires major envy for its low-maintenance and equally stylish flair. The lived-in look is all about confidently rocking overgrown roots to minimise upkeep, one of the main barriers to women getting their hair coloured. In order to achieve this effortless style, the term ‘bronding’ has resurfaced where blonde and brunette are living under the same roof. Colourists are using techniques such as balayage and ombre which are perfect for adding a little blonde and moving to a subtle bronde look.

Bronde can also be a great way to transition from blonde to brunette if you are looking to pick up a darker tone and go brunette. If you are looking for something subtle, our NEW Express Blonde service is a game changing lightening service which gives you up to 6 levels of lift in 15 minutes! Check out our Look book for our Express Blonde looks and ask in salon for the Express Blonde service menu, find your nearest salon here. Don’t forget to make sure you ask your colourist for Redken’s pH Bonder service to make sure the integrity of your hair is protected while colouring. Pick up pH Bonder Step 3 to continue the repairing process at home!

Best tips for making a subtle change

We understand that sometimes you want to update your look without making a drastic change. Often colouring your hair can be scary and nerve-wracking, whether you are a hair colour virgin or have been dying your hair for years. If this is true for you, bronde is the way to go. So if you’re a brunette looking to play up your natural hair colour, there are a few things you can do. During your consultation with your colourist, Redken recommends looking into adding a few subtle accents to your hair with babylights to enrich your natural base colour. The babylights hair colour technique uses thin, subtle highlights to frame the face or add dimension to a look. Alternatively, you can also ask your stylist about using Shades EQ Gloss on your hair for a toning effect that pumps up the shine and enhances your natural brunette hue.

How to maintain my bronde hair look?

We recommend stopping in to see your colourist between appointments for an all-over glaze with Shades EQ Gloss to maintain your hair colour’s shine and sparkle. Also use Redken’s Color Extend Magnetics Shampoo to maintain the brightness of your hair colour between appointments.

How to talk to your colourist about which type or bronde is best for you

If you're considering the switch, create a Pinterest board of examples you love and share it with your colourist during a consultation. Ask them to give advice on what shade of bronde is best for your eye colour and face shape to make sure the colour suits your look. Don’t forget to show us your transformation by tagging us @Redken so we can see your amazing new colour!

How to keep your hair first class from take-off to touch down with Redken’s NEW travel size summer hair kits.

It’s that time of the year when clients are coming into salon with freshly manicured nails, glowing spray tans and excitement on their faces as they countdown the days until their holiday. Your clients are ready to pay whatever is needed to get their summer hair to look and feel utterly fabulous! Holidays can be active and the sun and the sea can ruin hair causing colour to fade, ends to split and strands to feel as dry as bones. Your clients need a solution to extend their ‘out of the salon’ hair to last all holiday and that’s where Redken can help. Our NEW summer travel size kits are perfectly compact to give your clients their dream summer hair. No matter where they go or the type of their hair, Redken has the solution.

Excitement to get dream summer hair is just around the corner until you remember packing…

Holidays are great they are the times when clients are the most excited until they remember packing. As we all know no matter how many times you write a list, you will always forget something or bring the wrong thing. A lot of the time it is shampoo and conditioner because we know it can add a burden to your suitcase… We either arrive at the airport, run to the shop and are forced to spend extortionate costs on hair products which aren’t necessarily specific to our hair types. Or we bring travel sized hair products but usually end up disappointed because we cram all our beauty products in the airports tiny plastic bags which let’s be honest are prone to ripping. This usually leaves us with products all scattered in our hand luggage and it’s impossible to find anything. Worst of all it is always a sight for sore eyes especially for beauty lovers when because of the 100ml airline rule we see big bins at the airport full of full size shampoo and conditioners having to go to waste.

Say goodbye to the airport plastic bags and hello to Redken’s new travel size summer hair kit

However, we know good things come in small packages so to lighten your load and reduce your stress, we have done the hard work and provided a compact summer hair kit which can fit not just your client’s travel size products but ALL your clients’ beauty must haves. Let your clients say goodbye to the days of the airport plastic bags and say hello to Redken’s new travel sized summer kits which will leave your clients hair in first class condition from take-off to touch down. They are the perfect addition to any of your client’s suitcase which don’t just pass airline size requirements but will last for the whole holiday too. So forget having to think about decanting shampoo into plastic bottles from supermarkets and offer your clients solutions to amazing summer hair. On top of this the bags are compact so you can stash them into your bag without the fear of it bursting mid-flight.

Prevent summer hair going puffy with travel size All Soft Mega

If you client is going on a city break, hair will need defence against fumes, toxins and the sun. Cities are great but with high humidity, pollution and hot temperatures the sun can sap your locks of moisture leaving your client’s hair very puffy and dry like straw (aka not the summer hair we want). The NEW All Soft Mega Shampoo and Conditioner system is the answer to refreshed summer hair. This travel sized duo featuring the Superfood Nutri complex a blend of cactus extract, aloe vera and sacha inchi oil will deliver intense hydration, replenishment and control for hair that expands uncontrollably as a result of dryness. For the evening getting ready is always rushed. So in this kit we have included the award winning Pillow Proof travel sized Spray which reduces blow dry time, breakage and provides volume leaving them with the perfect blow dry for summer hair that will last all night.

Get the wavy summer hair style with travel size Beach Envy

To your clients who are going on a beach vacation, don’t make them take their bulky curlers and instead give them the option to get the wavy style with Beach Envy. Swimming in the pool and the sea and sunbathing in hot temperatures, can leave hair flat, bodiless and quite honestly boring. Redken’s travel sized Beach Envy shampoo and conditioner delivers a texture-boosting blend of filloxane, minerals and polymers to create the ultimate summer hair with amplified, loose, beachy waves with amazing body. To follow we offer a unique salt free, volumizing treatment styler spray with a mineral and latex blend to infuse summer hair with texture, waves and a big beachy style. It is unlikely the hotel will offer the finishing touch to take hair from day to night so the Beach Envy Wave Aid will give that effortless sexy tousled look for those summer nights.

Fuel your summer hairs strength with travel size Extreme

For the clients who have damaged and sensitized hair make sure they fuel their summer hair with strength from Extreme. When going a lighter hair colour there are a few factors you need to consider

Have a full in-depth consultation and get expert advice from your colorist

  1. Color history – Have you had any chemical services that have been applied onto the hair? We can’t determine your end result if we don’t know what services you have previously had.
  2. Is my hair strong enough? We recommend a pre-treatment before colouring
  3. Hair texture - Is you hair able to take lightening?
  4. Skin colour – Will the shade of blonde you want suit your skin tone? We can work together to choose the best tone for you.
  5. Can you maintain your blonde? We recommend all blondes using a purple shampoo and purple conditioner at least once a week.

Get advice from the experts both colorists and stylists in the salon

  1. On big Colour changes we often get each other’s opinion,
  2. We get the stylists involved, as we like to create the perfect look for our clients.
  3. Always do our skin test 48 hours prior to their appointment.
  4. Strand test - In particular every new client wanting to go blonder. This is so we can see the level of lift we can achieve, how the elasticity and porosity of the hair feels.
  5. Knowledge is power and if we have all this information we can achieve better results and retain the integrity of the hair.

Everything you need to know about purple shampoo for blonde hair

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PURPLE SHAMPOO FOR BLONDE HAIR

What is purple shampoo?

All blondes know that finding that perfect blonde shade takes time, money, and a commitment to keeping the colour as fresh as when you left the salon. That’s where the beauty of purple shampoo comes in.

Purple shampoo is an absolute necessity for blondes to use in between hair colouring sessions as it easily helps keeps your blonde beautiful.

Why is purple shampoo necessary for blonde hair?

Those of us with blonde hair need purple shampoo because of how the hair is lightened in the first place. According to Redken Artist Adina Doss "When I lift a client's hair (colourist speak for lightening), there is an undertone that comes up, which I like to call 'raw blonde.' To get my clients to a richer, more quality blonde, I add a colour treatment called a toner, specifically Redken's Shades EQ, to eliminate any undesired undertones, whether that colour is yellow or yellow-orange or even a reddish undertone.”

Those undertones can come out when the colourist applies a toner, but you may find they start to appear between colour services as the toner fades. Insert the need for a purple shampoo to adjust tone at home!

Redken Artist Jaclyn Harwood says that these undertones can also be caused by things like sun, hard water or heat styling. For this reason, purple shampoo is not just for colour-treated blondes. Natural blondes need it, too, Harwood says. In fact, those who’ve been jumping on the unicorn hair trend of purples and blue in their hair can also benefit from purple shampoo to help keep violet hues from fading.

Salon Tip: When a colourist lightens your hair, he or she should always use a toner as a step in the colouring process. Doss says this is a non-negotiable—so don't be afraid to ask for it during your next service!

But why is purple shampoo purple?

“If you think of a colour wheel, as basic as it sounds, whatever colour you want to cancel out is directly across from it,” Doss says. “Directly across from yellow is purple. So, the purple helps eliminate the unwanted yellow colours from the hair.”

“It’s almost like a way to brighten the colour to a cooler tone,” Harwood says. “So, if the hair has a little bit of a yellow tone, a pigmented purple shampoo is going to neutralize that warmth.”

How often should I use purple shampoo?

Keep in mind that purple shampoo does not replace your regular shampoo and should only be used once or twice a week. Doss warns that there is such a thing as too much purple.

“When you eliminate too much yellow, it visually ends up darker and a lot of people don’t want it to look darker,” she says. “So if you wash your hair twice a week, use the purple shampoo only once a week to keep the hair bright but not yellow.”

Harwood also adds that purple shampoo can be mixed with regular shampoo to add some of the violet pigment into a regular hair cleansing routine without any risk of going overboard.

Redken’s Colour Extend Blondage, is now available and is formulated with a Triple Acid Protein complex—amino, citric and maleic acids and wheat protein—that neutralises unwanted undertones and helps strengthen hair’s cuticles while battling brass and keeping blondes bright

Meet Larry founder of Larry King salon in South Kensington.

Meet Larry King founder of Larry King salon in South Kensington and find out how he has doubled his men's colour business with Redken Brews Color Camo.

The salon can be a female space so what can you do to make it more man friendly?

I think keeping the interiors appealing to everyone is a huge start, we worked really hard on the interiors of the salon ensuring there is both an industrial and luxury finish that appeals to all genders. I also think it’s really important to give out a friendly chilled vibe to clients whoever they are, nobody likes walking into an intimidating environment. I also try to really get the messages across on social media that I'm very much an advocate of both.

photocredit @larryking

How do you introduce men’s colour into the conversation with your clients?

Men are definitely feeling more comfortable trying out new things when it comes to hair and beauty nowadays. We've just done a story called Rogue Blonde, which is just a case of adding a few strands of blonde to frame the face, this can give the face a warm glow after such a harsh winter. We're also seeing lots of guys trying a full bleach which looks mega and even trying pinks and blues. If you're looking for something more subtle the New Redken Brews Colour Camo's are great for disguising a bit of grey without it looking too obvious you've had anything done. I'd absolutely recommend coming in for a consultation and getting colour done professionally, our team are experts and will ensure it's the right colour treatment for you.

What are the opportunities for men’s colour for a salon owner?

There are actually loads of great options and men’s colour is a growing trend, the new flash lift by Redken is also great as can be done so quickly, you're not sat in the chair with foils in for ages, you can be in and out in no time and it's subtle enough that your hair will just look sun kissed.

How do you retail to men? Do they shop in the same way as women in your salon?

I think a lot of men rely on the recommendations of their stylist, so chat to them about the best products for you and it’s an easy sale. Redken Brews is the refreshed range of Redken for Men, it’s the same great product in new and modern packaging, it looks great on our shelves and men are attracted to its brew bottle style packaging.

What can I do to upskill my team’s men’s grooming and men’s colour skills?

Redken offer men’s hair and men’s colour focus courses at their academies, as well as this they have a wide selection of online training on all aspects of men’s hair. If you’re a L’Oréal salon your full team can access these online training courses as well as book onto courses on L’Oréal Access

How do you know what style suits your client and how do you guide them to pick the best men’s hair and beard styles that suit their face shape and style?

I recommend every guy uses a hair dryer, I love the Dyson Supersonic it's a great piece of kit and makes a huge difference. I'm a big fan of Redken's Full Effect Mousse add a small amount to wet hair and blow dry hair in all directions using the nozzle to push the hair in all directions. Getting to know the different finishes of the Redken Brews Pomadesand how they work with different hair textures is key.

In terms of beards and stubble, the most important thing is to never use the trimmer to shave in a neat line under your chin, instead use the attachments to blend to nothing on the neck instead. This gives a much more sophisticated and stylish finish. Make sure you use Redken Brews Skin and Beard Oil.

We came up with The Hair Remedies at Larry King for exactly this reason. It's super important to listen to your stylist about what suits your hair texture or face shape. We have a face shape remedy, a curly hair remedy and a thick hair remedy at the salon. Different textures require different things and this is key. For example, if someone is conscious about their ears, I'll leave it soft around that area, going too tight and clean will just accentuate the area. Similarly if you've got a round face, I'll leave the back longer so their hair is visible around the nape of the neck and behind the ears and I'll leave squarer corners. They are just tiny tricks that make a huge difference and can give a guy stacks more confidence.

What is the key men’s hair trend that is here to stay?

My key trend is my signature look which is what I do with Oliver Cheshire's hair. I keep it longer on top, soft on the sides and movable. It doesn't have a particular parting or finish, it moves, so can be ruffled and shifted all day long and worn in loads of different ways.

What product in the new Redken Brews range could you not live without?

The key product for me in the new Redken Brews range is Outplay Texture Pomade.

Where do you get your men’s hair style inspiration from?

I take inspiration from everywhere, the catwalk to the man on the street, I love different music genres and old movies. I never stop absorbing new ideas and inspiration.

You can book in for men’s hair and men’s colour at Larry Kings here

Tips For Going Blonde While Keeping Your Hair Healthy

Tips For Going Blonde While Keeping Your Hair Healthy

Once you go a new shade of blonde, you may never want to look back. For hair, it’s not just a big step aesthetically, but physically as well. Chicago-based Redken Artist Twylla Jane says any and all color, from permanent color to lighteners for going blonde, can change how your hair feels. This doesn’t mean don’t go blonde. It just means go blonde with all the knowledge you need to rectify the damage and get stocked up on purple shampoo.

Treat Any Underlying Hair Issues

Since hair is going to be effected by going blonde, it’s important to get it in its healthiest state before going blonde.

“Anytime you color hair, you’re going to strip moisture and protein, so if your hair is weak or dry before you start the color process, you want to try to heal that beforehand,” Jane says.

Ask your colorist if you’re in need of treatment and then, try something like Redken’s Extreme Anti-Snap Leave-In Treatment for Damaged Hair or anything your colorist recommends from the Extreme Line.

Test First

Before you dive into the blonding process, have your colorist lighten a piece of your hair. Jane says this is highly recommended, as it can tell you and your colorist how quickly your hair lifts—or reacts—to lightener.

If your hair lifts easily, you’ll see a nice blonde right away, which tells you that going blonde should be an easy process. If your hair doesn’t lift easily, you’ll most likely see an orange color, which simply means you might have to start with a honey blonde or a strawberry blonde before getting into a light ash blonde or a platinum blonde.

Going Blonde? Know Your Options

There are a few different ways hair can be colored with lightener. Your stylist can color your hair from root to tip via foils or balayage, a method that’s often thought of as painting the hair.

Anything in foil lifts faster, so Jane recommends this if you’re trying to get a light ash blonde.

Balayage, however, will give you a lot of dimension and is best if you’re looking for your hair to have different shades of blonde.

Ask your stylist to try Express Blonde services if you are looking for a quick 20 minute refresh blonding service. Great if you are short off time or a brunette looking to take the going blonde journey slower with gradual balyage.

Keep Your Hair Healthy at Home using purple shampoo and purple conditioner between salon visits.

Purple shampoo and purple conditioner: they’re not nice-to-haves for blondes, they are must haves. The great thing is that you don’t have to sacrifice brighter blonde for conditioned, healthy hair. Color Extend Blondage Purple Shampoo and Purple Conditioner work together to tone out brassiness, help strengthen and moisturise damaged, bleached hair and deeply condition to smooth the cuticle for shine. The Triple Acid Protein Complex within the system helps you kick brassiness to the curb and say “yes” to strong and bright blonde hair. Here is a hot tip: Toning is completely customisable, meaning you can tone more often and longer (5-10 minutes) for a cooler, ashier effect, or less frequently and for a shorter period of time (3-5 minutes) for quick anti-brass for every level of blonde.

9 Brunette Ideas To Shake Up Your Haircolor

With spring just around the corner, you might be ready to refresh your look. Even if you don’t want to stray too far away from your natural hue, you can still put a new spin on it. Stumped for brunette haircolor ideas? Take a cue from Redken’s Global Color Creative Director, Josh Wood, who created nine brunette haircolor looks that are the perfect inspiration for your next salon appointment.

1. Tortoise Shell Brunette

Instantly warm up your shade of brunette by asking your colorist to add caramel tones using an ombré technique. It’s perfect if you’ve been coveting the look of golden blonde hair but aren’t ready to take the plunge. The best part is it requires minimal upkeep—since the roots are kept dark you can embrace the regrowth. If your hair is naturally on the dry or coarse side, you can help keep your caramel color looking shiny and feeling soft by using a leave-in hair lotion.

2. Roseberry Brunette

Just because you’re rocking brunette hair doesn’t mean you can’t experiment with color. Asking your stylist for roseberry burgundy highlights can enhance your brunette and add a sense of drama. This haircolor looks best when styled in smooth waves, so use a leave-in smoothing oil serum to help keep frizz at bay and protect hair from heat styling.

3. Brunette With A Pop Of Color

If you’re feeling daring, adding a bright pop of color is the way to go. This is ideal if you aren’t ready to commit to a full-on vivid look but still want to accent your hair. To keep it subtle, ask your stylist to place colorful balayage highlights underneath your hair for a hidden surprise. Maintain the vibrancy of the highlights and deep condition by using a hair mask for color-treated hair.

4. Gilded Brunette

For curly hair types, a gilded brunette look is a gorgeous option. The look features brunette hair with blonde highlights that make ringlets pop and reflect shine. With this haircolor, you can have sun-kissed hair year-round and confidently show off your curly hair texture. Since curly hair tends to lose moisture easily, you can add hydration back into your hair by using a tissue mask cap for five to ten minutes on freshly washed hair.

5. Milk Chocolate Brunette

See yourself with blonde highlights but aren’t sure how to make it work with naturally dark hair? This look includes a flattering blend of blonde and brunette shades that are sure to turn a few heads. Since the blonde highlights go all the way up to the roots, they are noticeable and contrast the brunette base perfectly. A transformation like this will require your stylist to lighten your hair, so it’s best to use a post-color system like Color Extend Bonder in the first two weeks after your appointment. The three-step system can help protect and strengthen hair that may be on the weaker side after a highlighting service.

6. Chrome Brunette

Give your brunette look an edge by adding smokey neutrals to your hair. To get the color, your stylist can place chrome pieces underneath your hair with subtle babylights framing your face. You can also have peace of mind knowing that your stylist will use pH-Bonder throughout the appointment. The two-step system can protect your hair during the chrome highlighting process because it helps reduce breakage and leaves hair feeling touchably smooth.

7. Chocolate Brunette

Switching up your hair doesn’t always have to mean reinventing the wheel. Sometimes, all you need are a few chocolate lowlights to add depth and dimension so that your hair has more movement. Since this haircolor is so dark, take advantage of the glossy look by using a leave-in conditioner that helps add shine.

8. Chestnut Brunette

If you’re working with fair skin and have always wanted to be a redhead, chestnut brunette hair is an opportunity to test out the look before fully committing. The look involves color-blocking with thick chestnut highlights framing the face. To keep the red tones in this haircolor looking as vibrant as possible, shampoo hair with a sulfate-free formula like Color Extend Magnetics.

9. Ash Brunette

Keep it cool with this striking ash brunette haircolor. A mix of small babylights and highlights help the ash stand out against the dark base. This color looks especially stunning with olive complexions because the ash helps balance out the skin tone. For softer hair after your highlighting service, use an argan-oil enriched shampoo and conditioner.

BRASSY HAIR: WHY IT HAPPENS AND HOW TO PREVENT IT

BRASSY HAIR: WHY IT HAPPENS AND HOW TO PREVENT IT

Weeks after colouring your hair blonde, you start to notice something strange: the shade you left the salon with is no more, and now your hair has taken on an undesired yellow, orange or red tone. What gives? Brassy hair, that’s what.

Brassiness refers to the unwanted warm tones that show up in coloured hair. It typically happens in dark hair that gets dyed platinum or blonde, but it can also occur in hair that’s been highlighted or in hair that’s been lightened to brown.

To understand why this occurs, you’ll need to understand what’s happening during the whole hair lightening process. To lift dark hair, bleaching with a mix of ammonia and peroxide is usually a necessary part of the equation. When hair is bleached, melanin, a dark brown to black pigment, gets diluted in a process known as oxidation.

After bleaching, the next step is usually to apply your hair colour, which deposits artificial pigment onto your locks while removing some of your natural colour.

Brassy hair colour becomes a problem when bleaching or lifting doesn’t get rid of all the underlying pigment in your hair, giving the warm tones an opportunity to reveal themselves. For lightened blonde hair, the underlying pigment is yellow, and for lightened brown to black hair, the underlying pigments are orange to red. When the brassiness starts creeping up, think of it as your natural hair telling you, “Hey, remember us?”

When brassiness occurs, that also means that among the red, yellow and blue colour molecules your hair dye contains, the blue ones have made a faster departure, leaving—you guessed it—just the warm tones. Since the blue colour molecules are smaller, they’re broken down easily and fade quicker with every wash. Unfair.

Fortunately, you have several options when it comes dealing with brassy hair, in terms of both preventing it and fixing it after it happens.

Start off by choosing the right permanent colour

In your consultation in the salon your colorist will help you to select a cool hair colour, like one with the word “ash” in the name, since it’s less likely to turn brassy than one that’s warm. If you gravitate toward warmer shades, don’t worry; there are plenty of lighter hair colours you can pull off that have a good balance of cool tones.

Get a Toner for brassy hair

Toner, a translucent deposit of hair colour that fades in a few weeks, isn’t just great for altering your hair colour without the commitment. It can be a great brassy hair fix, too. Also known as demi-permanent colour, glaze or gloss, toning can correct the unwanted yellow, orange or even red tones lingering on your hair since it contains just enough pigment to improve your hair colour. Plus, the service will enhance the shine levels of your strands in the process, so you’ll be doing your hair multiple favours in just one sitting.

Redken’s Express Blonde service, which can be used as a toner for brassy hair, does all of the above and raises the hair cuticle, giving hair volume and texture and improving manageability in the process. Plus, the Express Blonde toning service can take as little as 20 minutes.

Just remember that a hair gloss yields only temporary results. The good news is you won’t have to deal with that obvious growing out period situation with your roots like you might have to deal with if you decide to colour your hair all over again.

Get a bond protecting service

Since healthy hair is less likely to turn brassy, add in a bond-protecting service, like Redken’s pH-Bonder, during the bleaching or hair colouring process, to protect your hair from damage and strengthen your strands.

Wash your hair with colour depositing purple shampoo and purple conditioner to neutralise unwanted warm tones.

Need an at-home brassy hair fix? If you’re blonde, go for a purple shampoo and purple conditioner, and if you’re brunette, go for a blue-tinted one, since yellow is opposite to purple and orange is opposite to blue on the colour wheel. Try new Redken Colour Extend Blondage purple shampoo for a brighter stronger blonde.

Avoid the sun and the pool

We know, we know: how can you say no to the pool and soaking up some rays? But if you want your hair colour to stay put, it’s best to stay away.

The chlorine commonly found in swimming pools can strip your hair dry, leaving your locks dull and damage-prone. And when hair becomes damaged, your hair colour will have a harder time staying in place, meaning more opportunities for brassy hair colour to show up. Use Redken Color Extend Magnetics and Redken Color Extend Blondage, both ranges have protection from chlorine.

Use a shampoo for colour treated hair the rest of the time.

Since overusing a colour-depositing hair product may end up turning your hair blue or purple, only use it once a week. The rest of the time, apply colour-protecting hair products, like Redken Colour Extend Magnetics Shampoo or Redken Extreme shampoo and Redken Extreme Conditioner, since they’re gentler than regular shampoo and tend to not include sulphate, which can fade hair colour.

Invest in a shower filter

Washing your hair with water that leaves a large amount of mineral deposits, including chlorine and iron, is bad news for coloured hair since the build-up is drying and the chemicals could end up fading your hair colour, leading to another opportunity for brassy hair to reveal itself. A shower filter can help cut down on the mineral deposits, so your hair colour stays around for longer.

7 Reasons To Try A Hair Gloss

Coloring your hair doesn’t have to be a lifetime commitment. In fact, there is an amazing way to flirt with new hair colors without compromising the integrity of your strands. Hair glosses, like Redken’s Shades EQ, are a form of demi-permanent hair color that help to enhance your hair’s natural shine, while also correcting and revitalizing the tone of your hair. It’s perfect for those who are new to the world of hair color or simply want to try out a new trend without the fear of commitment.

These glosses work by using a mixture of direct and oxidative dyes to glaze, refresh and correct your current hair color. Think of this service as your hair color’s new BFF. It helps to rejuvenate the look of your hair without over processing your strands. Basically, it’s a hair color that thinks it’s a conditioner. Wondering what else this Wonder-Gloss can do for your strands? Here are seven reasons to try a hair gloss

1.Color Without Commitment

As tinted hair glosses are demi-permanent, the processed color will gradually fade over time. However, this doesn’t mean that your strands will be left with visible roots or regrowth. As Shades EQ is just a gloss, it doesn’t lift or lighten the color of your hair. In fact, it’s formulated with just enough pigment to renew and improve the overall tone of your hair color without drying out your ends. Stylists turn to this service if they’re looking to enhance a client’s natural color or reinvigorate previously colored hair. It’s their go-to service for ensuring glossy, rich strands each and every time.

2.Refreshes Color Tone

Color glosses are a must if you’re looking to refresh your current hair color and eliminate any unwanted tones. As any Redken stylist will tell you, there is no reason to place permanent hair color on previously colored strands. Instead, stylists opt to use a gloss to perfect, tone, and color correct any hair color imperfections that have occurred since your last visit. Say goodbye to any faded ends and dull looking strands. With Shades EQ, your hair color can transform in just 20 minutes.

3.Eliminates Brassiness

Yellowing highlights and orangey tints can be a blonde’s worst nightmare. By applying a hair gloss, stylists can color correct problematic tones in a client’s hair giving them more natural looking results. Shades EQ is your answer to strands that simply don’t stand out.

4.Enhances Shine

Hair glosses are like an Instagram filter, IRL. They help to add vibrancy and shine to your hair no matter what your lighting situation is. As the Shades EQ formula is crafted without drying ammonia, your stylist can color your hair without worrying about it losing its natural shine. It puts a spotlight on your strands and ramps up the overall vivacity of your hair. Shades EQ is perfect for taking your hair color to the next level.

5.Add Volume & Manageability

As with any color service, hair glosses raise the cuticle to deposit a small amount of color on the hair. When the cuticle is lifted, volume and texture are created, which gives the hair a bit more manageability when styling.

6.Quick Processing Time

If you’re looking for a quick hair color fix, then hair glosses are definitely the service for you. In 20 minutes, your hair can go from boring and basic to bold and beautiful. It’s a quick and easy service that helps you to elevate the look of your hair in no time flat.

7.Subtle Color Changes

Color glosses are all about enhancing your hair’s natural beauty. They are perfect for those who want to make slight color adjustments without going overboard. It’s the best way to introduce your hair to the world of hair color.

Wondering what else a hair gloss can do for you? Schedule an appointment at your local Redken salon to discuss if Shades EQ Gloss is right for you (Spoiler alert: It is).

Keep your summer hair first class this summer

  2. Is my hair strong enough? We recommend a pre-treatment before colouring
  3. Hair texture - Is you hair able to take lightening?
  4. Skin colour – Will the shade of blonde you want suit your skin tone? We can work together to choose the best tone for you.

  1. On big Colour changes we often get each other’s opinion,
  2. We get the stylists involved, as we like to create the perfect look for our clients.
  3. Always do our skin test 48 hours prior to their appointment.

If you’re a L’Oréal salon your full team can access these online training courses as well as book onto courses on L’Oréal Access

photocredit @larryking
