Get the Look: Sabrina’s Bangin’ Blowout

In the bang heard ‘round the world, Sabrina Carpenter has officially shared her secret to keeping that blonde bombshell blowout looking its very best: Redken’s Acidic Bonding Concentrate system, or ABC for short.

Fans of the international pop sensation have become obsessed with learning how Sabrina creates her signature look, and we’re here to share all the smooth, strong, stunning details!

For this, we turned to Sabrina’s longtime stylist and Redken Ambassador Scott King, who has mastered both her blowout and her bangs while utilizing Acidic Bonding Concentrate and several other key Redken styling favorites.

Scott King Tip #1: Prep With Heat Protection

Before even coming near Sabrina’s hair with any type of hot tools, King makes sure to use Acidic Bonding Concentrate Leave-In Treatment, which provides up to 450 degrees of heat protection. “Some days we blow dry the bangs multiple times a day, so that’s why this is so important when we’re on a shoot or doing a performance,” says King. “We need to get them perfect and have them stay perfect all day.”

Scott King Tip #2: Use Products to boost volume, and shine

When blowing out Sabrina’s hair, King uses Redken Full Volume Mousse to achieve her go-to voluminous style and the Quick Blowout Spray for added shine and heat protection

(Helpful product hints: You’re also going to get humidity and heat protection, as well as added moisture, from Full Volume. And Quick Blowout features a bi-phase formula that conditions, smooths and cuts down drying time.)

Scott King Tip #3: Heat set for hold

One of the keys to a great blowout hairstyle is longevity. You want to get the most out of your hard work, so using products that can help keep the style going as long as possible is super important. For this, King loves the Redken Thermal Spray High Hold 22, which delivers lasting hold in addition shine and frizz control. Bonus: you’re getting even more heat protection with this spray as well.

To complete Sabrina’s blowout, King uses High Hold 22 before setting and pinning her hair with a curling iron, which also helps to make her blowout last by locking in the heat. Once he takes it down, he runs a brush through to create the bouncy, full finish we all know and love.

At Home Sabrina Blowout Tips

Ready to style like Sabrina? While having long hair with bangs will, of course, help create a look that’s closest to hers, we’re sharing everything you need to know to get that stronger, smoother, better bounce regardless of hair length. (For the best results, though, your hair should be long enough for a round brush and/or rollers!)

Follow these simple steps to create a Sabrina inspired blowout.

Step 1: Heat set for hold

After combing through clean, damp hair (reminder: Sabrina loves our ABC shampoo and conditioner!) to detangle, section the front from the back at each ear and split the back into two separate sections. If you’re using a cream or gel, apply the product evenly to each individual section with your hands. Or, if you’re using a spray, spritz each section thoroughly. Don’t forget your heat protection!

Step 2: Blow dry with a round brush

Next, rough dry your hair to get most of the moisture out, then use a round brush to smooth and lift small sections. Make sure you get the brush as close as you can to the root to achieve the most volume possible and roll those ends to create Sabrina’s soft bounce.

Lastly, lock in that finish with Redken Control 28 Hairspray.

Alternate Step 2: Bring in the rollers

If you struggle with blow drying and round-brushing, try Velcro rollers. They’re much easier to handle for many people!

After rough-drying your hair about 90%, it’s time for your rollers. For this step, sectioning and roller size is key. For example, if you want bounce like Sabrina, use medium-size rollers on smaller sections.

Once your rollers are in, mist your hair with Redken Brushable 12 or Control 28 hairspray and let it sit for awhile. This would be a great time to apply your makeup and select your outfit. You can also add some heat from your dryer to speed up the process. Always finish with a cool air shot to set the style.

When you’re otherwise ready to go (i.e. your makeup and outfit are on), pull the rollers out and use a wide-tooth comb or a brush to bring on the bounce!

Bang Bonus Step

Now, let’s go over few tips into help you perfect that iconic Sabrina bang.

First, remember King’s advice and always start with a product with heat protection like our ABC Leave-In Treatment.

Using a medium bristle round brush, lift and curl your bangs under while blow-drying with high heat on a low speed. To create more volume (especially if your bangs are a little longer) you can also dry against the direction of your hair. Be sure to finish with a cool shot of air to set the style, then slowly release your brush and let your bangs cool a little more. Use your fingers to shape as needed.

  1. If you’re using Velcro rollers on your bangs, here are a few extra pointers:

  2. Take your bangs and wrap them around a large roller, then mist with Brushable 12 or Control 28 Hairspray. (The amount of volume you achieve will depend on how much you elevate the roller.) Let it sit for a few minutes, then add low-speed heat, followed by cold air to set.

  3. Remove and enjoy your big bang!
