Acidic Bonding Curls: The Care Your Curls Crave

Ready to fall in love with your curls again? Curly girls all over the world are putting down the flat irons and not only embracing, but truly adoring their natural pattern, perfecting their routines to coax out those gorgeous curls, coils and waves.

But listen, we get it. Curls can be tricky. Unlike a standard strand of straight hair, the internal structure of a curl is asymmetrical, which means it can’t retain as much moisture as straight hair. Plus, the curl cuticle is also raised, automatically causing curly hair to be more fragile and prone to frizz, damage and breakage. Add any type of color or chemical process into the mix, and you’ve got some seriously stressed texture. Bottom line: curls and coils definitely call for specific care. And we bet you’ve tried all kinds of curly hair products that haven’t quite hit the mark.

Enter Redken’s new Acidic Bonding Curls system. You’ve heard of Acidic Bonding Concentrate. Well, we’ve taken it a step further and created a bonding system uniquely designed to restore your curl pattern.

This isn’t just your standard shampoo and conditioner for curly hair. Packed with active ingredients like citric acid and glycine, these silicone-free formulas go inside of the curl structure, bonding and hydrating all the way down to the deepest cortex layer. To finish, they seal the raised cuticle to keep all this newly absorbed moisture from escaping. Curls are stronger, smoother and more hydrated and defined, making them way easier to manage.

And the pros agree. Redken artists and curl experts are already giving this iconic new system their official stamp of approval.

“Acidic Bonding Curls is perfectly formulated for my curly haired clients,” says Redken Ambassador Leysa Carillo. “The brand-new line combines a curl-specific formula with Redken’s existing authority in the bonding category, stemming from the success of Acidic Bonding Concentrate.”

“Redken, as a brand, [is] taking curls seriously,” adds Redken artist Rory McPhee, noting that he appreciates that Redken offers a line like All Soft Mega Curls for curly girls looking for moisture and now Acidic Bonding Curls for those who want both repair and volume. “What I like about it is the fact that it’s coming from the repair side of it. [Acidic Bonding Curls] kind of allows you to create that voluminous, big curly hair [while] still looking after it at the same time.”

And here’s the best part: Acidic Bonding Curls is ideal for all curly hair types, textures and patterns – from relaxed waves to bouncy coils. “No matter your curly hair journey, embrace the twist and turns with confidence,” Carillo encourages. “Now with the power of Acidic Bonding Curls, your strands will be nourished, defined and bouncy every day.”

McPhee even has a few tips to ensure you’re getting the most out of your curl products.

Curl Care Pro Tips

Pro Tip # 1: Don’t be scared to cleanse. McPhee explains that some people may be shy to shampoo their hair, but cleansing properly and thoroughly is a good way to get rid of build-up on the hair.

Pro Tip #2: Don’t skimp on moisture. When it comes to curl conditioner, “leave it on for five or ten minutes before you wash it off,” recommends McPhee, “because that’s one of the times you’re going to be able get a real amount of moisture into the hair.”

Pro Tip #3: Do get a curl brush. We’re sure you’ve seen them all over social media, but McPhee says that a curl brush can really make a difference. “Things like that, which are a tiny investment, make such a difference because they don’t disturb the curl pattern as much, and you can comb through while the conditioner’s on,” he explains. “You’re already starting to build yourself to success because you’re kind of allowing the curl to find itself.”
