1. How did the salon come to life?

The Lion & The Fox, Born in 2015 was set up by Hairstylist, Tim Pateman and Photographer, Leo Cackett. Their vision of bringing photography and Hair together came to life. The space offers a clever and unique concept of an open hang out space for staff and clients to chat. The concept is just part of the brand make up. With award winning salon stylists from prestigious backgrounds (Trevor Sorbie/L’Oreal / Toni & Guy and REDKEN) The salon lays in the hub of London’s design heartland, Clerkenwell. It’s the home of craftsman, design and arts industries since the 19th century.. Spanning two floors, the overall interior celebrates the original architecture of the workshop giving it an industrial yet polished feel with exposed brickwork, wooden flooring, and feature lighting and muted tones.

2. What defines The Lion and The Fox salon?

The Team, the atmosphere and our commitment to making a place not just to have your hair cut and coloured but also to offer a space where people want to hang out before and after their service. We have an unobtrusive table on entry where people work or sit with the team for a chat and a glass of wine.  The gallery space which clients are welcomed with when entering the salon, gives us the opportunity to exhibit different artists.

3. What are your clients like?

The salon is a perfect reflection of the area and the local clientele in creative industries. They range anything from 4 to 91 in age and anything from the jacket potato’ man who worked on leather lane for over 30 years to writer Dawn O Porter or Elizabeth Day! Many have followed our stylists around and come from all over the country and even as far as America to get their hair done when they are in town for business.

4. What made you choose Redken as your professional brand of choice?

We chose Redken as a Brand firstly because their products work, looking after our colour clients is the most important aspect to us. The Redken Philosophy is something we feel that works with us as a salon. “Learn Better, Earn Better, Live Better” and as a small business we get the support from a big brand (constant up to the minute training for all our colourists) We were previously with colour brands that just didn’t quite hit the mark. With Redken, there is a product and colour to fit everyone, as no client is the same.

5. What are your must have Redken products?

Shades EQ is a must have for all our colour clients, for maintaining health and shine. Blondage Shampoo and Conditioner – nothing beats that on colour correction in the salon and at home. Rough Paste, offers hold but with no stickiness or residue

6. What is your favourite hair trend of the moment?

The 70s are back baby! Loving how men are growing their hair, and girls’ are going shorter.  In addition, how layers are making a great comeback on short and long hair.  People are not afraid of trying new styles or once avoided colours like copper or red are back with a vengeance.

7. What do you think keeps your clients coming back?

Our clients come back to us because of the relationship they have with the whole salon team. Nearly all our clients comment on atmosphere and quality of service. Our clients enjoys the laid back but professional atmosphere.  People say that TL&TF has bought back their love for going to a salon as it’s like coming to a mates house rather than an intimidating salon.

8. What is next for your salon in the future?

Developing the salon further both creatively and more client love
