BLOGGER OF THE MONTH: MEET MEG | WONDERFUL YOU

 MEG'S HAIR STORY

THE DAY MY MUM UTTERED THE WORDS ‘IF YOU HAVE TO’ THAT WAS IT - I WAS OUT OF THE DOOR AND DOWN TO THE HAIRDRESSERS. SOME PEOPLE GO THEIR WHOLE LIVES WITHOUT COLOURING THEIR HAIR, BUT FOR ME IT WAS SOMETHING I COULDN'T WAIT TO EXPERIMENT WITH.

NATURALLY, MY HAIR IS THICK, MOUSEY BROWN AND STRAIGHT - AND I GUESS WHAT I CRAVED MORE THAN ANYTHING WAS FOR IT TO BE JUST A BIT MORE INTERESTING. I MEAN, TO SAY I WAS CAREFREE ABOUT MAKING A CHANGE WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT. AT THE INNOCENT AGE OF 13 I HAD BRIGHT BLONDE HAIR WITH VIBRANT RED ‘HIGHLIGHTS’ (CAN YOU FEEL ME CRINGING THROUGH THE KEYBOARD?), AT 15 I WAS BLONDE WITH THAT STATEMENT AVRIL LAVIGNE BLACK SECTION UNDERNEATH AND THEN, AT 16 YEARS OLD, I DECIDED I’D CALM IT DOWN SOMEWHAT AND GO BACK TO BROWN (NOT WITHOUT IT TURNING GREEN FIRST THOUGH…)

MY HAIR STAYED THAT WAY RIGHT UP UNTIL MY TWENTIES AND THE RED HEAD I WAS AT THE BEGINNING OF 2016 HAPPENED PRETTY MUCH BY ACCIDENT. OVER THE YEARS I SIMPLY ASKED MY HAIRDRESSERS TO ADD A LITTLE MORE RED TO THE BROWN AND EVENTUALLY, THE BRIGHT AND BOLD COLOUR THAT RED IS, TOOK OVER. THERE WAS ZERO BLEACH INVOLVED WITH ACHIEVING THE VIBRANT SHADE I WAS BACK THEN AND IN HINDSIGHT I’M REALLY GLAD; IT’S MEANT MAKING THE CHANGE FROM RED, TO WHAT I AM NOW HAS BEEN A BREEZE.

I’VE ALWAYS LOOKED AFTER MY HAIR (YES, EVEN WITH THE QUESTIONABLE COLOUR CHOICES) AND BECAUSE OF THAT, I WAS APPREHENSIVE TO WHACK A FULL HEAD OF BLEACH ON IT TO ACHIEVE THE BRIGHT ORANGE LOOK I WAS AFTER. AND THEN…I MET AMY FISH AT THE GEORGE NORTHWOOD SALON, AND ALL MY WORRIES MELTED AWAY. THIS WOMAN IS THE ONLY HAIRDRESSER TO EVER MAKE ME FEEL INSTANTLY AT EASE - LIKE NO JOB WAS TOO BIG, NO IDEA TOO FAR FETCHED. SHE KNOWS HAIR AND SHE KNOWS IT REALLY, REALLY WELL.

WITH THEM ALREADY BEING STAPLES IN MY HAIR ROUTINE, WE BOTH AGREED ON THE PERFECT REDKEN SHADE AND HAVEN’T LOOKED BACK SINCE. EXPERIMENTING WITH DIFFERENT VIBRANCIES, THE REDKEN COLOUR ALLOWS US TO BRING SOMETHING TOTALLY FRESH EVERY TIME I GO IN FOR A TOP UP. IT’S WITHOUT DOUBT THE MOST ME I’VE EVER FELT - THE RANGE OF COLOURS FROM REDKEN MEAN I’M NEVER WITHOUT INSPIRATION FOR MY NEXT SHADE; AND THE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE THAT COME FROM AMY AND THE TEAM AT GEORGE NORTHWOOD MEANS I’LL NEVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE.

IT’S SAFE TO SAY I’VE FOUND MY HAIR HOME!

WE'VE CHANGED IT UP FOR THE AUTUMN - AMY AND I AGREED IT WOULD BE NICE TO GO FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WHILST STILL KEEPING ELEMENTS OF THE ORANGE WITHIN THE SHADE. SHE ALSO USED THE NEW REDKEN PH-BONDER - DESIGNED TO STRENGTHEN THE HAIR DURING THE COLOURING PROCESS AND IT FEELS INSANELY GOOD. BASICALLY, IF YOU'RE PUTTING COLOUR/BLEACH ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR HAIR, YOU NEED THIS. SILKY GOODNESS RIGHT HERE!

MEG'S HOT HAIR TIPS

  1. INVEST IN SALON LEVEL HAIR CARE - YOU WOULDN’T WASH YOUR NEW CAR WITH ROCKS, SO TREAT YOUR HAIR WITH THE SAME RESPECT. IT’S AN INVESTMENT, SURE; BUT NOT ONE YOU’LL REGRET.
  2. UTILISE DRY SHAMPOO (PILLOW PROOF IS MY FAVE), AND TO HELP KEEP YOUR COLOUR VIBRANT, MINIMISE WASHING. IT’LL IMPROVE THE CONDITION OF YOUR HAIR TOO - CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF, WASHING IT EVERY DAY ISN’T GOOD FOR IT!
